We have the opportunity to make a decision about whether we can respect their actions, their behavior. We must respect who people are but we do not need to respect how they may behave. Mother Teresa told of her calling to be a servant to what the world would call unlovely, not worthy of high regard, the lepers, the poor and the needy.
As I understand the story, Mother Teresa was on a crowded train in India. The smell, the sight of all those poor, dirty, sick people literally made her sick. She found herself judging them. And in that moment she realized that all of those souls were Christ in a distressing disguise. She came to respect with high regard each person no matter what they were disguised as.
