Dear Coach,

My son recently graduated from college and traveling in Asia with his girlfriend. Upon their return, they have jobs in Chicago and will be living there. The girlfriend’s father called me and asked if the young couple was planning to live together. I didn’t know how to respond and don’t know why he asked me. I said the rent in Chicago is very high, and they probably will share an apartment. It left me feeling very uncomfortable. What should I have said?

Dear Oh That Was Uncomfortable,

Whenever we are asked to respond to something that is not ours to respond to, it is always wise to say “Hmm that is an interesting question, maybe they (the couple, our children) could give you more insight about this.”
